The home shirt is the one most fans start with: it is the club's primary colour, worn at their own ground, and it is the design that gets refreshed most visibly each season. The away shirt exists because two teams cannot wear the same colour, which is why it usually flips to a secondary or contrast colourway. The third shirt is where clubs take risks — retro patterns, unusual colours, one-off designs.
